Your habits make you whatever you want (or don’t want) to be
Yesterday, I was reading Justin Cox’s book, Write Now. I’m not very far in it yet but I’m already liking the style and the worksheets.
Anyway, in the second chapter, he writes:
Developing a writing habit is essential to being a writer.
Having written over 700 articles over the years, I can certainly attest to that. And while 700 articles might sound impressive, I was more impressed by the fact that he had been writing in his daily journal for 1,500 days straight!
Talk about a habit that’s so solid that pretty much nothing can stop him! It’s inspiring!
I once had a solid habit too. For a full year, with very few exceptions, I took daily sunrise walks to take a picture by the water. It’s really not always fun in Canada when it’s really cold outside. But I pushed through and never questioned whether or not I’d do it.
The reason I’m mentioning all that is that you can use Justin’s sentence and apply it for basically any skill and profession. Here are some simple examples:
