How to Quickly Raise Your Self-Awareness Using a Table of Life
A high-impact, low-effort concept
Sometimes in life, you stumble a simple tool that changes your life forever. One such tool for me was the Wheel of Life. Essentially, it’s a spie chart (that’s not a typo) divided by 8 slices symbolizing 8 areas of your life you care about. It looks something like this:
With the Wheel of Life, you essentially rate how you feel you’re doing in each category on a scale of 0–10 (hopefully you’re not a 0 in anything!).
You can do it as frequently as you want. There was a time in my life I did it daily because it prevents biases and mood swings. Realistically though, your answers shouldn’t change that much in a month, much less in a week.
Now, the Wheel of Life is nice, but it’s not without its drawbacks:
- It’s hard to draw
- It doesn’t scale very well if you want to add new slices
- There really isn’t enough space to add notes about why you scored yourself that way
That’s why I came up with the concept of the table of life. It builds on top of the best ideas from the wheel of life but has none of its drawbacks. I’ve done them many different ways over the past few years.
