Completely agree on this. I currently have 9 sources of income and working on more. That’s not counting my full-time profession of building video games or my photography.

However, it is possible currently to make very decent money on the partner program. I don’t know how long that will last, but I’ve had returns of $300 per hour spent writing an article. This happened a few times. I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to share here, but I’ve also had articles yield a lot more than that per hour spent.

I don’t even aim for that though. It’s all about the value I can bring to the reader.

But it’s as you say, you can’t rely on that. It’s not a good idea to rely on something you don’t have that much control on.
