5 Ways to Keep Yourself Accountable
No, they’re not that easy — because accountability just isn’t easy
Recently, I signed up for a nearby climbing gym. To help keep me accountable, I decided I would go for a brief period of 30 minutes daily. While this won’t make a pro climber any time soon, it will be enough to create a habit out of it.
Sure enough, there are pointers telling me I’m on the right track already. The first pointer is that I hurt my ankle recently and the thought of not going to the gym sounds terrible to me. So I’ll still go but do other stuff like stretching and working out. I don’t want to use the easy excuse that I hurt myself not to go.
Second, I met other climbers during my first week and asked them about their schedules. One said they go every Tuesday and Thursday. Another one said they’re going Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
In that whole first week, how many times do you think I’ve seen these climbers?
Once each.
They didn’t show up on the day(s) they said they would. Can you think of ways they’d be able to make themselves accountable?
That brings me to way #1: Involve others.
Imagine if these two climbers had asked me to partner up with them and we set a schedule to go…
